FAQs about hotels in Bologna

A Gourmet Delight

World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.

Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.

Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.

The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.

Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

One of the most beautiful cities of Europe, the weather was great and there was a great crowd on the streets. The food n people are nice. You can find history in every corner. We walked almost everywhere. Had an eating tour which was very nice.. Go to Via Pescherie Vecchie, for sure you'll find a spot to dine:) If you have few days you can take a tour to Ravenna to see Dante's tomb, the famous mosaics n have lunch at the Mercato Coperto. I didn't get enough, sure will go back:)

Bologna is a very friendly city with a laid back vibe and very safe....the general prices to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner were extremely reasonable which was a nice surprise! Make sure to get the little train up to San Luca, but do it on a good clear day as the views are amazing! We loved "Eataly" and "Roberto Bistrot" and try all the ice cream shops....Bellisimo!!

Bologna is wonderful, plenty to do for a long weekend. It’s flat so easy to get around. The food (gelato, coffee, meats, pasta) is exceptional. It’s clean and reasonably safe with a great atmosphere. Not overwhelmed by tourists (yet). It’s a good base to travel to Florence (too many tourists), Pisa, Parma …

I liked the accomodation and the range of restaurants I could use. Try the pasta dish Grimigna! I was close to a shop where I could buy a daily bus ticket to meander through Bologna, and send postcards. I wished I had planned my trip better, although I found certain places accidentally, like the Two Towers. In particular, I never really found the bus and train stations! The advertised prices for tourist tours in season were over the top. Brochures, maps, bus guides etc would have been useful. I do not think that my host had private transport which would have been a boon, if he had thought to offer private tours! A very friendly family... Incidentally, there were several add-ons, like tourist tax, contents of the mini bar etc. But free coffee, regular cleaning, clean towels and plenty of other items like free toilet roll and free bathroom sachets. I found people very friendly and willing to let me practise my command of the Italian language on them; I even chatted with someone who knew the Italian Eurovision contestant to be in town! I felt reasonably safe, though was too good at getting lost! There were parks, gardens and countryside within easy distances. The room itself had no special view and could be noisy though was clean and efficient. There was free local wi fi. Bologna, la rossa, la grassa e la dotta.

The room was lovely and spacious, as well as very clean. We had our own private bathroom down the corridor which was huge. There was a lovely selection of teas, coffees, water in the fridge and snacks in the room when we arrived and lots of storage space. The host was absolutely lovely, met us at the apartment, booked our taxi to the airport, sent us her top tips for where to go in Bologna as well as restaurant recommendations and a map of the city centre - such a great night's stay here!

We stayed for a week and it’s an excellent hotel. Given that it’s in the old part of town, it’s central but because it’s not on a main road it’s actually quite quiet. The breakfasts really are excellent. I wasn’t sure about the bed but it proved comfortable. The roof garden is an added bonus. It’s really nice up there. Easy to get around Bologna, but it is a good 25 mins walk from the station. But then again, if it were a shorter distance the location would be much noisier.

Well located hotel in the heart of Bologna. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was spacious and comfortable. Good air conditioning and shutters made the room cool during some very hot weather. Good breakfast and coffee made to order. Great service from staff. The staff were unfailingly cheerful, helpful, patient and welcoming, even when we arrived at 3 o'clock in the morning after our flight was delayed. The location is good: a short taxi ride from the airport, an easy bus ride into the centre of Bologna, set in leafy surroundings. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Everything. Class and comfort at every turn and yet, probably because it was Bologna, one of the most reasonable in terms of price. Close to the train station, and not a far walk from the center of town. This was truly luxury compared to other hotel rooms at similar prices. Bed, bathroom, shower, chairs in room, breakfast, lobby, and staff were all excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Perla is actually an "albergo". This means that if you expect the amenities of a hotel you will be disappointed. It is in an old house in the historical centre of Bologna. I booked this hotel for it's proximity to the airport since we had an early flight out of Bologna. The airport shuttle departed about every 15 minutes.
